How Myspace Music Sells Your Music
Does Myspace Music sell your music via?
DOWNLOADS | STREAM |
---|---|
NO* | YES |
*While MySpace Music does not offer downloads in their store, they did provide iTunes and Amazon buy links next to songs available for streaming. However, with their new site, the “Buy” options have not been implemented yet.
While these streams are free to users, they are ad-supported, and you will get paid an aggressively negotiated share of MySpace Music’s ad revenue related to your web traffic for, in effect, doing what you’re doing already maintaining your MySpace page and using it to engage with and grow your audience. If you opt-in to the MySpace Music service through Sound Legends, the music you deliver to Sound Legends will be included in the MySpace Music service and will therefore be eligible for a share of ad revenue.
All sales that are generated in iTunes and Amazon MP3 from the buy buttons in your MySpace Music player will appear as normal in your sales reports. The buy buttons are simply links redirecting to the respective stores.
Myspace has introduced a new service called “My Radio”. My Radio allows people to create and program their own radio stations, which can be streamed for free on an unlimited basis. Stations can be produced by anyone, giving each member the opportunity to play the role of DJ and promote the music they love to the broader community. Plays of your music on My Radio will be reported to SoundExchange. So money earned by your music from streams at Myspace’s “My Radio” will NOT flow through Sound Legends: it will be waiting for you at SoundExchange, and you need to be signed up with SoundExchange to retrieve it. Registration with SoundExchange is free!
Pay Rate (How Much MySpace Music Pays You)
Please see previous section about how MySpace sells your music. This means that the payout rates can fluctuate each month.
Where Your Buy Buttons Appear in MySpace Music Through Sound Legends Distribution
*While MySpace Music does not offer downloads in their store, they did provide iTunes and Amazon buy links next to songs available for streaming. However, with their new site, the “Buy” options have not been implemented yet.
First, you need to give Sound Legends your MySpace Music Friend ID when adding the MySpace Music store to your album or single. If you do not know your MySpace Friend ID, please contact us with your MySpace profile URL. Once the Friend ID has been added in Sound Legends, it will take 12 weeks for your music to go live in MySpace Music. You will know your music is live when you click the “Music” tab on the side-panel (under “Profile”) and below the media player under “Albums & Singles,” you will see your albums/singles listed that you distributed through Sound Legends. When you click each one, you’ll be brought to the album/single page with buy links and streaming capabilities. Please note, the buy links will NOT appear in your media player on the artist profile through Sound Legends distribution.
IMPORTANT:
While MySpace accepts all releases to their store, they are not able to link Various Artists (Compilation Albums) to specific Friend IDs at this time.
